It is estimated that between fifty and ninety percent of people in the UK will suffer from some form of gum disease over the course of their lifetime. This number continues to be on the increase despite the simplicity of the steps required to prevent the disorder.
Gum disease, or gingivitis, is usually caused by a build up of plaque over time. This, coupled with the natural bacteria in your mouth causes a sticky film to form over the teeth which, if allowed to remain, can irritate the gums and cause swelling and bleeding.
In more severe cases, such as periodontitis, the inflammation can affect the sockets and ligaments that connect your teeth causing them to become loose and/or fall out.
At Raynesway Dental, we believe that prevention is better than cure and, in order to fully support our patient’s dental health, we offer a range of services aimed at preventing gum disease as well as having the expertise necessary to treat it when it occurs.
Our hygienists are available to fully discuss and guide you through proper oral care treatments and techniques. They are also able to properly clean, scale and polish your teeth while you are in the practice and recommend products and services that may be of use.
Our dentists are also able to treat gums and take corrective action where required.
